Profligate was built at DENCHO Marine in Long Beach
and launched in October of '97. Originally, she was to be a modification
of a Kurt Hughes 60, but ended up being a completely different
boat - other than the general shape of the hulls. For instance,
the hulls were raised six inches, her transom was lengthened
by three feet, she was given a van Peteghem and Provost profile,
her house and transoms are completely different, and she has
two helm stations, and her interior is unique. For better or worse, she was built in an entirely different manner than recommended by Hughes. To date there have been three major modifications: 1) The hydraulic steering, which never worked, was replaced with a Whitlock geared system. 2) An inch and a half of the leading edge of the rudders was wacked off to correct an imbalance in the rudders. 3) The mast is being replaced with a larger section that has double the moments. |
